How to Wear a Midi Dress

red striped midi dress

FB20-3For a very long time I shied away from midi dresses because I thought they were for older and taller ladies, both of which I am not, but I loved how elegant these ladies looked. Well, maybe I am  aging, or aged or I just decided to succumb to curiosity and try them out and in all honesty, I love them!

If worn the right way I think midi dresses exude sophistication and elegance. How you wear a midi dress will depend on the type of dress you’re wearing, and the type of dress you should go for will depend on your body shape, personal style and where you’re planning to wear it because not all midi dresses are created equal. My rule of thumb is, look for tailored shapes and fitted waistlines if your dress has a full skirt or cinch the waist with a belt to avoid looking frumpy.FB20-7FB20-1FB20-4

If you love high heels, midi dresses give you an excellent excuse to wear your highest, most ridiculous heels, the ones you don’t really dare to wear with shorter hems. If you do not like heels consider even a small heel to combat the possible frump-factor of a midi dress. Flats and platforms do not generally work well with midi dresses because they make you look shorter instead of elongating your legs.

My personal favorite style of midi dresses are those that offer elegance without the need for too many accessories.

I love this one because it is simple, and the stripes make me look even taller than I already am (just kidding). I cinched it at the waist with a belt and finished the look with these killer strappy heels.
